Unofficial Feedback Teams

Tool for Receiving Effective FEedback

Hello Reader,

My first step in receiving feedback is deciding whose opinions I most care about. The reason I do this is because there is a lot of noise in our world and as we know, not all feedback is relevant to the goal or considerate of our current situation. Selecting my unofficial feedback team allows me to clarify whose perspectives I want to prioritize.

So, here is what you need to do; select your goal and the people whose opinion you consider important to that objective, for example:

Reader, understand that different goals should have different feedback teams, for example, running my business requires a new combination of people. As you can see below, the feedback of my family is less relevant in the work context.

Note, there are two potential dangers to this exercise which we need to recognize.

  1. Firstly, it is possible we can receive insular and repetitive feedback if the entirety of our team thinks very similarly to us. So, to the best of your ability, nurture a diverse group in order to have a range of different perspectives.

  2. Secondly, I am not saying that receiving feedback from people outside of our unofficial team is useless. No, feedback is always useful, the only difference is that when push comes to shove or we are getting conflicting information, we know who to prioritize. We can put more weight on the feedback we receive from people we have actively chosen.

Excellent, selecting your unofficial team helps you understand which people you want to prioritize when receiving feedback.

Happy doing!
