Repertory Grid

Clear Criteria for Decision Making

Hello Reader,

How do I choose between all the different options?

Let’s dive into the Repertory Grid. This tool, based on the work of psychologist George Kelly, has a wealth of different applications; for interviews, brand analysis, counselling, research, and plenty more. Today, we are going to apply the Repertory Grid to Decision Making.

When we are trying to figure out what job we want, what we are looking for in a boyfriend / girlfriend, what university to go to, what type of leader we want to be, or what dinner we want to munch, we need a set of clear criteria to help us make up our mind. The Repertory Grid illuminates our personal list of criteria and provides a rigorous method for scoring different options.

Outcomes

At its heart, the Repertory Grid provides us with a bespoke list of criteria we can use to guide our decisions. Considering the example of finding a job I want, I now know that I am aiming for a position that has purpose, a worthy leader, a fun team, variety, reasonable hours, etc. We can take the tool one step further and score the various options against our personal criteria to provide rigour and insight into our preferences.

Reader, I have never walked someone through the Repertory Grid process on paper before, please reach out if you need any clarification.

Happy Doing!
